Who We Are:
CFUW (formerly known as the Canadian Federation of University Women) is a non-partisan, voluntary, self-funded organization with 94 clubs across Canada, 54 in Ontario. Since its founding in 1919, CFUW has worked to improve the status of women and girls, and individuals who identify as women, and to promote human rights, public education, social justice, and peace in Canada and globally. CFUW holds consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council.
CFUW Southport was founded in 1989 and celebrated our 35th anniversary in Saugeen Shores in September 2024. Over 100 members, ranging from active working women to retired seniors, engage in life-long learning with monthly guest speakers, and enjoy a variety of special interest groups including book clubs, euchre, cooking, and other social activities.
New members are welcome any time of the year and do not require a university degree or other educational certificate to join. Please contact cfuwsp@gmail.com for more information.

How do I know if CFUW is for me?
- You are welcome to attend a meeting to see what we are all about (see Program Brochure above for dates and times). There is no cost.
- You can also contact our Membership Chair at cfuwsp@gmail.com for more information.
I'm new to the area and don't know anyone in your club.
We hear this a lot. We always arrange to have a Member greet you and make introductions. You will not be alone.
What are the dues, and am I required to pay before attending a meeting?
Please refer to the sidebar schedule for dues. We understand that you might like to check us out, so we invite you to be our guest at one meeting prior to paying dues.
As a Member how much time will I be required to volunteer?
The short answer is, as little or as much as you prefer. While there is no pressure to commit at this time, many of our Members find committees and groups that align with their interests and values. It provides a great opportunity to get to know your fellow Members and support our club.
Are Members required to fund raise?
Fund-raising is not a primary goal of CFUW. We do support local initiatives such as food banks and women’s shelters from time to time, but donations are always voluntary. We are also proud to support women and girls as they continue their education through the CFUW Southport Scholarship Fund. Contributions are strictly voluntary and eligible for a CRA/tax receipt
